General Guidelines for Operating in Ohio
Before getting out on the water in your boat or PWC, check the
Ohio Boat Operator's Guide and
HP limits for complete laws and regulations as well as operating rules to specific lakes. Ohio boating laws apply to all waters of the state. This includes private waterways. Stay safe, ride legal and always maintain your boat and PWC with
AMSOIL synthetic lubricants designed specifically for your
marine engine and
PWC.
Safety Equipment
Safety equipment required to be on board your boat depends on a few things such as how your boat is propelled, the length of your boat and even the body of water you're on. Check before heading out to make sure your craft meets all requirements.
Operating a PWC
Ohio has laws requiring PWC operated to be at least 12 years of age. Children under the age of 12 may not operate a PWC for any reason. Children ages 12 to 15 may operate a PWC only if they have an education certificate. An adult 18 years or older must be onboard with them at all times. Teens, age 16 to 17, may operate a PWC without supervision as long as they have a current education certificate. People over the age of 18 may supervise a child 12 to 15 if they have an education certificate. Anyone over 18 may operate their PWC without the education certificate.
